Chapter 7: Admiring Paintings in Bern and Zurich
17 December 2013
Good morning from Bern, capital of Switzerland. We took the train this morning to Bern to walk around for a short while. I am glad we did because look at this breathtaking view.
It was really cold but we the beautiful view was a wonderful distraction.
Since it was covered in snow, we were trying to figure out what were some of the buildings below and someone had actually wrote big for us to see. Hahaha.
Giant clock tower.
There were not that many vehicles around and people were commuting in trams more than buses.
After a good walk around, we hopped onto the train to Zurich.
All the walking was making us hungry so we stopped by Honold. This cafe was listed as one of the best tea rooms. According to food enthusiast Bon.
She was right. The place was crowded. There were pastries, sandwiches and so many types of desserts to choose from. I was standing at the counter for a long time before deciding what to order. I love the open sandwiches, they looked so tasty.
After a while I finally ordered this chocolate moose. It was delicious!
We walked over the lake….this is a lake even though it looked like open waters. I was telling Bon that this is like our sea back home. Lol.
There were hardly any clouds so the sky looks extremely blue! Even with the sun shining it was still freezing cold.
I was so ecstatic the see the gathering of swans, ducks and sea gulls!
Wish I had some food to offer. We do not get to see this in Singapore or else I will be at the lake / pond every morning to feed them.
I wanted to take a photo here because of the dried branches. They branched out so prettily and with the lake and sky as the background, I was sure it would make a good photo. The others followed suit. Copycat.
Dried trees and really blue sky! No clouds!
Apparently the lake is where people take a stroll and feed the birds.
So we strolled……
Even though I am flat footed, I really love walking. Walking at such a beautiful place at a cooling weather has a calming effect on the mind.
Checking out the santa claus tram and the mini circus on the lake.
I have never been to a circus. #deprived
With the sun setting and the waters shining from its reflection, it was even more beautiful.
The really blue sky was like a backdrop of a beautiful painting.
We decided to grab a quick bite from the supermarket and have our lunch by the lake.
But the sun was shining on our faces if we were to face the lake.
Zurich was really beautiful and peaceful.
When the sun sets and sky gets dark, the Christmas lights brightens up the city instead.
Zurich was a great place to shop. There were so many shops and it was hard trying to resist all the temptations to shop. I was actually thinking of not buying too many stuffs since we still have about 9 days to go and I do not want to be carrying an exploding luggage. It was already heavy enough as it is.
We were looking for suitable place for dinner and imagine our excitement when we saw this Korean / Japanese restaurant. It can only mean one thing.
Hot food!! It was so bloody expensive but so worth it.
Such a lovely day! I love seeing the lake, the skies, the dried branches of the tree, the shining sun. Walking around Bern and Zurich was like looking at beautiful paintings of nature and man made buildings collide into a beautiful harmony.
Can’t wait to see more tomorrow!
